So I’m stoked to be working on an exciting new website called Fudha.com. For the past few weeks we’ve been cranking on the functional aspects, signing up restaurants, spreading the word and getting excited for our first offer – it drops March 1st!.
The concept is simple. Every 24 hours, Fudha offers an exclusive deal at one of the best restaurants in your city (starting with our hometown of Columbus, OH). We’ve convinced these restaurants that our concept benefits everyone. Our customers get a great deal, restaurants get new customers, and we all help feed the hungry — via a per-sale donation to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
We’ll also be having our launch party/fundraiser this Sunday, Feb 28th, 2010 at 1pm at Barrio downtown. Join us for some complimentary mimosas, and a great brunch! Proceeds benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank as well.
So I went and saw this movie last night as part of the Wexner Center’s “Zoom: Family Film Festival” … It was in French, there was lots of bad language and it was probably the funniest thing I’ve seen in months.
19th century mathematician/inventor, Charles Babbage once contacted the poet Alfred Tennyson in response to his poem “The Vision of Sin”. Babbage wrote, “In your otherwise beautiful poem, one verse reads,
Every moment dies a man,
Every moment one is born.
… If this were true, the population of the world would be at a standstill. In truth, the rate of birth is slightly in excess of that of death. I would suggest [that the next version of your poem should read]:
Every moment dies a man,
Every moment 1 1/16 is born.
Strictly speaking, the actual figure is so long I cannot get it into a line, but I believe the figure 1 1/16 will be sufficiently accurate for poetry.”
This type of thing intrigues me to no end. Not only is the raw physicality of it amazing, but the growing social, political and economical motivations behind these projects blow my mind.
So there’s a thing happening this Saturday. Some of you may know about it. For lack of a better name (or lack of a worse), we’re calling it THE JENKINS FAMILY REUNION!
Jenkins because it’s on Jenkins at our good buddy Ryan’s. (some of you may remember it). This is also the day of the German Village garage sale so come spend your entire day south of downtown.
This is whats going on:
REAL LIVE, UNCENSORED BEER BREWING. We’ll be getting a batch of homebrew going this very day!! If you were ever curious or even just love making beer already, we’ll be putting our seasoned beer veterans to work.
MORE BEER A keg of Columbus’s own Barley’s Scottish Ale will be on hand as well as a variety of other attractions. If you have your own flavor you’d like to contribute, bring it along!
FOOD! Appetizer: Veggie chili with a medley of fresh roasted vegetables.
Main Course: Smoked honey lime chicken, black pepper frites with smoked red pepper aioli
Desset: Tequila orange glacé
YARD GAMES We’ve unearthed a collection of JARTS. There’s also a plan to construct an industrial sized slip and slide if the weather is good for it.
CAMPING Who wants to go home when you can sleep in the grass? Bring a tent if you want to. There is plenty of room to setup.
Address: 355 Jenkins Ave, Columbus OH
Starting: Around 3 or 4 pm May 16th, 2009
So the plans are in motion and the beer has been brewing. Come the 16th, we should be ready for an exciting cookout event complete with chili, lots of homebrew, and room to camp out (to avoid that pesky drive home). More details to come as they get solid (I mean I just came up with the chili idea about 30 seconds ago).
Growing up in suburban Cincinnati, I didn’t learn much about Jamaican food (surprise), much less what’s traditional for Jamaicans on Easter. Thanks to a local blog here in Columbus, I know a slight fraction more now. I’m fairly certain my mom will still make the hot-crossed buns every year but I’m going to take a trip to get some Bun ‘n’ Cheese here soon. I guess appropriately on Friday?
Not sure how I missed this before.. I’m sure its been up for a while (since atleast 2007 as far as I can tell). While trying to remember “that game with the guy and you had to go around punching other guys”, I finally searched Double Dragon and got it.
Love the fact that its all java and no downloads are required! Hate the fact that its all java and runs sluggish/unpredictable sometimes. Ah well. So goes the web.
